  • 4th stop: Gray, France

Beautiful way to the city of Gray. The Saône river is smaller than what we know from Lyon or Mâcon. There is just nature with the trees all along the river. It is very beautiful.

We moored at the quayside in Gray. There is electricity and water. Not far from center and a small park where we played with little M. Me and her feel sick, so we just enjoyed the time together in the park and stopped for a good ice cream with the nice view on the bridge.

  • 3rd stop: Auxonne

After two longer days of navigation we sailed not so far and not fast and decided to eat lunch in beautiful spot on the Saône. We dropped the anchors in the water and enjoyed calm and beautiful environment.

Not long after that we arrived in Auxonne. We went for a quick walk to the city and decided to give a chance to the bar next to our boat and eat a burger. Not so bad! I will not write more, because soon we will have a chance to discover this city more.

  • 2nd stop: St. Jean de Losne

This post about St. Jean de Losne will be long as the things you can see or do in St. Jean de Losne. Short. To dock in center along the Saône is little bit more complicate than elsewhere, because you have to get on shore to pass the cord in the ring which is few meters far. You can have water and electricity with tokens you can buy.

This city is very small and there is nothing special to see. If you like boats you can visit the ‘Musée De La Batellerie’ or go for a walk around the nearby marina where are also boats for sell.

You can eat or have a drink in a restaurant while watching Saône river. And that is pretty much all. If you continue without stopping here, you will not miss anything.

  • 1st stop: Chalon sur Saône

Heading north to our first stop Chalon sur Saône took us 7 hours of navigation with an hour stop in city of Tournus for a lunch. So in total it is approximately 6 hours with one lock. We want to get fast to more interesting part la Petite Saône, because this way we already did when we traveled to Mâcon.

Chalon-sur-Saône is a nice city in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The marina is pretty expensive for one night and it was full anyway. But a good captain always finds his way to dock the boat somewhere. We found a place not so far from center, without the electricity though. But it was a nice walk to the city center after all day of navigation.

The city center has beautiful streets with many shops. We stopped for a drink at St. Vincent square which reminded me the time we lived in Strasbourg.

Chalon is also known for the Museum of Nicéphore Niépce where you can find the whole history of photography from its invention by Niépce to the digital image. It very cool to visit it if you are interested in photography.

In the evening we made barbecue on our terrace and it was a great first day.
